2009 Fishing 101 class - Mobridge, SD

The fishing class is full and the participants have been notified.

Introduction: Fishing 101 began in response to the question, "Why do so few kids fish?" There are several answers..."They’ve never done it before." "Nobody takes them." "They don’t know how much fun they’re missing." "They don’t know how." "They don’t have any equipment."

What Fishing 101 attempts to do is eliminate all those answers; leaving them with reliable equipment, some basic knowledge, actual fishing experience and someone older to fish with. Every youngster who attends Fishing 101 must register in advance and include a parent/guardian. Both must have very limited fishing knowledge and no equipment as it is the intent of this program to introduce new people to the sport. Both will go through a 3 1/2 hour class covering everything from equipment to fishing cleaning; everything needed to start shorefishing. Both will receive the equipment they will need to become good shore anglers, followed by a fish fry and an afternoon spent fishing. By including the parent, the youngster is ensured of having someone who can take him/her and a consistent fishing partner. The parent gets to spend time with his/her child and enjoy afternoons at the lake; in addition to learning a new and stress-relieving activity.

Goal: The goal of Fishing 101 is to introduce people to the sport of fishing.

When: May 16, 2009

Where: Mobridge High School Science Classroom and Indian Creek Recreation Area

Time:
